Baseball Ranked As High As No. 20 In Latest Polls
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss baseball team, coming off a 1-3 record last week, including a win over No. 6 Ole Miss in Oxford, is ranked No. 20 by Baseball America and No. 20 by Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll.
Southern Miss (30-11, 12-6 Conference USA) defeated No. 6 Ole Miss, 8-4, in a midweek game and then was swept at Tulane in a three-game Conference USA weekend series (17-1, 17-5, 9-7).
East Carolina is ranked No. 7 by Baseball America, No. 9 by Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll and by Collegiate Baseball, marking the highest-ranked team in Conference USA. Tulane is ranked No. 13 by Baseball America, No. 14 by the Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll and No. 20 by Collegiate Baseball.
Southern Miss returns to action on Tuesday night when the Golden Eagles travel to Jackson, Miss., for a 6:30 p.m., contest with No. 9 Ole Miss at Smith-Wills Stadium.The Golden Eagles then travel to Birmingham, Ala., for a three-game weekend Conference USA series at UAB on Friday-Sunday, April 30-May 2. Friday's game starts at 7 p.m., Saturday's game at 2 p.m., and Sunday's at 1 p.m.
