Baseball Ranked As High As No. 12 In Latest Polls
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss baseball team, coming off a 3-2 record last week, including a Conference USA weekend series sweep at Saint Louis, is ranked No. 12 by Baseball America, No. 13 by Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and No. 20 by Collegiate Baseball.
Southern Miss (27-6, 10-2 Conference USA) dropped two midweek games to Mississippi State (9-18, 7-9), before sweeping a three-game Conference USA weekend series at Saint Louis (13-1, 10-3, 18-3) .
Tulane is ranked No. 7 by the NCBWA, No. 10 by Baseball America, No. 15 by Collegiate Baseball and No. 16 by the Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll, marking the highest-ranked team in Conference USA. East Carolina is ranked No. 14 by NCBWA, No. 15 by Baseball America, No. 18 by Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll and No. 28 by Collegiate Baseball. USF is receiving votes in the Coaches Poll.
Southern Miss (27-6, 10-2 C-USA) returns to action on Tuesday night when the Golden Eagles travel to Hammond, La., for a 6:30 p.m., contest with Southeastern Louisiana at Alumni Field.The Golden Eagles host Memphis for a three-game weekend Conference USA series at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field on Friday-Sunday, April 16-18, as part of EagleFest Weekend. Friday's game starts at 6:30 p.m., Saturday's game at 4 p.m., and Sunday's at 1 p.m.
