HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team defeated Southern University, 6-1, in women?s tennis action Saturday afternoon at Tatum Park.

Southern Miss improved to 8-7.  The Lady Eagles opened the match, winning the doubles points sweeping all three matches.  Nicola Slater and Kathi Sadofsky downed Francisca Osedumme (SU), 8-1, at No. 1 doubles, followed by Nikhila Narra and Jennifer Sibille defeating Tania Hicks and Ariana Marshall (SU), 8-6.  Olivia Berry and Courtney Ulrich defeated Isoke Perry and Sarah Johnson (SU), 8-6.

"I?m really pleased with out doubles play,? Head Coach Randy Rowley said.  ?I believe it was a carry over from our match with Troy State, and its good preparation for a very good team coming in Monday.  With it being senior day, it was very emotional and I was pleased with the way it ended."

Southern Miss went up, 2-0, following a win at No. 2 singles when Narra downed Kelli Nabors (SU), 6-2, 6-1.  Ulrich gave the Lady Eagles their third point, following her 6-4, 6-3, victory at No. 6 singles over Johnson.  Southern University earned its first point at No. 3 singles with Osedumme (SU) defeating Sadofsky, 6-4, 6-4.

Slater clinched the match with her 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, win over Marshall at No. 1 singles.  Jennifer Sibille added another point for Southern Miss at No. 5 singles, posting a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 win over Hicks.  Berry wrapped up the match, defeating Perry (SU), 6-7 (7-5), 6-1, 13-11.

Southern Miss plays its final home match on Monday at 2 p.m., against the No. 1 ranked team in Division II, BYU-Hawaii (19-0).  The Seasiders have five players ranked in the top 25 including the No. 2 and No. 4 players.  The Seasiders bring an 80-match winning streak into Hattiesburg.
