Lady Golden Eagle Netters Host Classic at Bayou Bluff

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
The Southern Miss women's tennis team will host its first Lady Eagle Classic at the Bayou Bluff Tennis and Recreational Club in Gulfport, Miss., Mar. 13-15. Teams included are Centenary College, Georgia Southern, Murray State and Southern Miss."We are very excited about this tournament," Head Coach Randy Rowley said. "I think this is a great way to showcase Southern Miss tennis. We are fortunate enough to have two players from the coast on the team. This will be an annual event, and we are looking forward to future tournaments."
The Lady Eagle Classic will feature some local flavor with Courtney Ulrich of Saucier and Olivia Berry of Gulfport. Ulrich played at St. John's High School where she won a state championship in singles. Ulrich owns a 2-1 record in dual matches. Berry played at Gulfport High School, where she won a state title in singles. She owns a 3-2 mark in dual play. Berry and Ulrich have teamed together in doubles for a 3-2 record as well.
Murray State has a record of 2-3, while Georgia Southern is 4-5 on the year. Southern Miss comes into the tournament with a 4-2 record, and Centenary is 2-8. The Lady Eagles are led by freshman Nicola Slater, who owns a 6-0 record in dual matches played this spring.
The Classic opens with a free junior clinic Saturday morning at 10 -11:30 a.m., then Murray State and Georgia Southern take the court for a match at 1 p.m., followed by Southern Miss and Centenary at 5 p.m.
On Sunday, Centenary takes on Murray State at 1 p.m., followed by Southern Miss and Georgia Southern at 5 p.m. On the final day, Georgia Southern plays Centenary at 11 a.m., and Southern Miss plays Murray State at 2 p.m.
Southern Miss returns to action following the tournament on Mar. 16 against Alcorn State in a 2 p.m. match.
