Basketball Bounces Back With Big Win Over Centenary
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Jasper Johnson had a double-double to lead Southern Miss in Saturday's 70-53 victory over Centenary in the consolation game of the Gazette-Hawkeye Challenge.
Johnson had a team-high 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in the win. Along with Johnson, Rashaad Carruth had 16 points, and Solomon Brown and Michael Ford had 11 points each.
The victory improved Southern Miss' record to 4-2 on the season, while Centenary dropped to 0-5.
Southern Miss, under the direction of Head Coach Larry Eustachy, led from the onset, jumping out to a 10-0 start. The lead never fell any closer than four points throughout and the 17-point margin at the end of the game was the largest.
Brown, who had a game-high 25 points in the opening game of the tournament, also had a team-best seven assists.
For Centenary, Chad Maclies had a game-high 21 points and Jamorrow Moragne added nine points.
Southern Miss returns to Hattiesburg for its next game, hosting Spring Hill, Tuesday, at 7 p.m., at Reed Green Coliseum.
