Basketball Set To Face Crosstown Foe William Carey
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss returns to Hattiesburg for the final non-conference home game of the season, hosting crosstown foe William Carey, Tuesday at 7 p.m., at the Reed Green Coliseum.
The Golden Eagles, who are off to an 8-2 start under Head Coach Larry Eustachy, enter the game on a five-game win streak, the last a 69-60 victory at South Alabama. Jasper Johnson continues to lead the Golden Eagles with averages of 18 points and seven rebounds, while Jarekus Singleton is second with 13.1 points and five rebounds a game. Rashaad Carruth also is scoring in double figures with 10.7 points a night.
William Carey enters the game with an overall record of 4-8 following a on Dec. 16 against McNeese State. The Crusaders are led by Renaldo Dorsey's 14.1 points per game average and team-best 8.8 rebounds per game. J.T. West follows with 13.8 points a game, while Anthony Barnes has 10.4 points a night. Rudy Bell is second on the team with 7.5 rebounds a game while also leading in assists with 37. The team is coached by former Southern Miss baseball standout Steve Knight, who also is a member of the Southern Miss "M" Club Hall of Fame.
The game marks the second in the all-time series between the two schools. Southern Miss won 91-59 last season.
The contest will be broadcast over the Southern Miss/ISP Sports Network. "The Voice of the Golden Eagles" John Cox and Lance Pittman will call the action. Air time begins at 6:30 p.m., CT, with the Golden Eagle Courtside Show.
Tickets for the game are still available. The Southern Miss Ticket Office, located at the Pat Ferlise Center, will be open from 10 a.m., through 2:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 28. Ticket sales then will be moved to the Reed Green Coliseum beginning at 3 p.m.
