HATTIESBURG, Miss.? Southern Miss? second half rally against South Alabama came up short, as it fell to South Alabama, 62-59, before 523 Sunday at Reed Green Coliseum.
Southern Miss was down by two points with 28 seconds remaining, but South Alabama?s Katrina Martello and Qiana Mitchell each hit two free throws with 12.6 and 9.2 seconds remaining respectively, to seal the game for the Lady Jaguars.
?We made some steps,? Southern Miss Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis said. ?I don?t want us to settle for almost. We did some good things. We only gave up five offensive rebounds in the second half. Our point guard play was a lot better today. They only made two turnovers, which is huge. Looking back on nine games, we?ve come a long way as a team. Now is the time to really challenge our players, and make a giant step forward. You can see things coming together, but you can?t settle for mediocrity.?
Southern Miss falls to 4-5 on the season, while
The Lady Eagles were down 28-23 at halftime, and were down by as many as eight in the second half. But Southern Miss used a 13-4 run to take a 38-37 lead with 13:29 remaining in the game.
