Southern Miss Seeks Second Home Win, Hosts McNeese HATTIESBURG, Miss. --
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., Saturday.
The Golden Eagles, under the direction of first-year Head Coach Larry Eustachy, enter the game with a 2-1 after defeating previously-unbeaten Southeastern Louisiana, 65-62, on Wednesday.
McNeese State, under the direction of Head Coach Tic Price, is 1-1 on the season after posting an 84-67 victory over Louisiana College on Tuesday.
Jasper Johnson currently leads the Golden Eagles with an average of 18.7 points per game, while Jarekus Singleton and Rashaad Carruth follow with averages of 15.3 and 11.3 points per game, respectively. David Haywood leads all players with an average of 6.3 rebounds a game, and Solomon Brown leads with 6.3 assists per game.
McNeese State enters the game with a 1-1 record on the season after defeating Louisiana College, 84-67, on Tuesday. The team opened the season with an 85-72 loss at Houston. Senior Edward Garriet leads the Cowboys in scoring with a 19.0 points per game average, while junior J.T. Williams is averaging 12.5 points per game. Senior Brice May leads with 6.5 rebounds per game, while Ryan Price has an average of 5.5 assists per game.
The meeting marks the 15th in the overall series, one that Southern Miss leads 9-5. The game, however, is the first since the 1992 season, where the Golden Eagles took a 92-63 decision at Reed Green Coliseum.
Following the game, Southern Miss takes a break before returning to the road in the Gazette Hawkeye Challenge, Dec. 3-4, in Iowa City, Iowa. The Golden Eagles take on UNC-Greensboro on opening-night, while host Iowa and Centenary compete in the other game.
