Golden Eagles Host Unbeaten Southeastern La. In Home Opener HATTIESBURG, Miss. --
The game is set for a 7 p.m., tip-off and will be broadcast over the Southern Miss/ISP Sports Network. "The Voice of the Golden Eagles" John Cox and Lance Pittman will call the action. Air time begins at 6:30 p.m., CT, with the Golden Eagle Courtside Show.
Southern Miss (1-1), coming off a third-place finish in the Jim Thorpe Classic in Reno, Nev., enters the game fresh off its 75-61 victory over Colorado-Colorado Springs on Sunday. The Eagles lost in the season-opener to Georgia State, 70-68, on Saturday.
Jasper Johnson, who was named to the Jim Thorpe Classic All-Tournament team, currently leads Southern Miss with an average of 22.5 points per game, while Jarekus Singleton and Rashaad Carruth follow with averages of 12.5 and 11.0 points per game, respectively. David Haywood leads the team with 7.0 rebounds per game, and Solomon Brown is the leader in assists with 13.
The Lions enter the game with a perfect 3-0 record after winning the Boise State Invitational last weekend. Ricky Woods leads the team with a 17.0 points-per-game average and is the leading rebounder with 6.3 boards per game. Nate Lofton leads the team with seven assists.
The game marks the 60th overall meeting in the series, one that Southern Miss leads 37-22. The Golden Eagles have won three-straight in the series, including the last contest, 89-62, on Dec. 29, 1994 at Reed Green Coliseum.
Following the game, Southern Miss hosts McNeese State on Saturday. Tip-off for the contest is set for 7 p.m.
