?My female teammate and I used to be bitter, bitter rivals,? Slater said. ?It?s going to be interesting playing doubles with her. We?re grown up now, and it?s for the team. It?s all in the past.
?It?s a big honor to be asked to be a member of the team,? Slater added. ?I?m very excited to play.?
Slater was asked to participate on the team as a 14-year-old and thought that would be her only opportunity to play for the national team.

She has been participating in Southern Miss? fall tournaments, and feels that she is ready to compete.
?I?m not nervous, because I?ve been playing in competitions and have been hitting a lot of balls,? Slater said. ?So I?m used to competition, which is good.?
What?s not good is the travel to get home. Slater will only get to spend 20 hours at home, before flying to
?I?m going to have jet lag pretty bad,? Slater said. ?I can?t sleep on a plane. I?ll have to fake it and not let it show in the tournament. And once I get back, we?ll fly to another tournament?
The Lady Eagle tennis team will return to the court Oct. 22-25, in a Regional Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
