Lady Eagles Fall To Host Charlotte, 2-1
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Southern Miss women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 Conference USA decision to host Charlotte at Transamerica Field here on Friday.
Southern Miss fell to 5-7-1 overall and 1-6 in league play, while the 49ers improved to 2-11-1 and 2-3-1.
The 49ers used goals by Jill Leeder and Kim Miles to open with a 2-0 lead and held that until the 79th minute of the match when Micah Stephens scored the Lady Eagles' lone goal of the match.
Charlotte scored the game's first goal when Lindsey Beam connected on a corner kick in the 25th minute. Beam's corner kick was headed by Lindsey Palmiero to Leeder in the right corner of the goal. She then put the ball in the back of the net giving the 49ers a 1-0 lead.
The 49ers increased their lead when Jenna Brenes crossed the ball out of the right corner of the field to Palmiero on the end line. Palmiero then passed the ball through several Southern Miss defenders to Miles near the top of the box. She then blasted a shot into the net in the 60th minute.
In the 79th minute, Stephens sent a deflection from Charlotte goalkeeper Shannon Huffman into the back of the net.
Southern Miss stays on the road this weekend, traveling to Greenville, N.C., to take on East Carolina on Sunday. First kick is set for 1 p.m.
