Baseball Continuing Fall Practice
HATTIESBURG, Miss.? The Golden Eagle baseball team is progressing through fall practice, in preparation for the annual Black and Gold game Oct. 23, and the 2005 season.
Head Coach Corky Palmer and his staff welcome 14 new players to this year?s team, including six junior college transfers and eight freshmen to the squad.
The Golden Eagles return 14 letterwinners, four position starters, two starting pitchers, and six bullpen pitchers from a team that finished 45-19 overall last season, tying for second place in Conference USA, advancing to the C-USA Tournament championship game, in addition to making its second-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
?We?ve been working hard on our defense,? Palmer said. ?Eddie Burger has been swinging the bat extremely well, which has been good.
Palmer said he has also been impressed with several of his incoming pitchers.
