Five Conference USA Players Honored As NCBWA All-Americans
CHICAGO - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has released its annual All-American teams and three Golden Eagles were selected, one on each of its teams.
Voting for the NCBWA All-American teams is conducted by the 250-plus members of the organization that includes writers, broadcasters and journalists that cover college baseball.
Southern Miss produced three of the five All-Americans for Conference USA, including first teamer Clint King, second-teamer Jeff Cook on the second team and third-teamer Austin Tubb. Tulane's Michael Aubrey (2nd team)and Houston's Ryan Wagner (3rd team) round out players from Conference USA schools that were selected to the team.
King and Cook are the top two home run producers in Conference USA, with both players matching the school record with 23 homers this season. King closed out his 2003 campaign ranked in the school's single-season Top 10 in batting average (6th at .394), slugging percentage (3rd at .772), doubles (tied for 5th at 23) and RBI (4th with 77). Cook batted .374 for the season with 76 RBI and a .728 slugging percentage (both fifth on Southern Miss' single-season charts).
Tubb made a team-high 30 appearances, posting a 3-2 record and 10 saves with a 1.45 ERA. He struck out 31 batters and walked just nine, while holding opponents to a .196 batting average.
