Lady Eagle Golfers Finish 7th At C-USA Tournament
DADE CITY, Fla. -- For the fifth time in Conference USA?s eight years, South Florida has captured the women?s golf championship. The Bulls shot a tournament-low 302 on the final day to finish with a three-day total of 912, edging out second place TCU by one stroke.
Southern Miss matched its opening round 321 and moved up one spot from Tuesday's No. 8 position to finish at 321-325-321--967, and in seventh place in the nine-team tournament.
The top 10 individual finishers were named to the all-tournament team, TCU's Brooke Tull was named the league's player of the year, and East Carolina's Kevin Williams was named the coach of the year. TCU produced the top individual performer, as D?Rae Ward shot a 74 on the final day to finish with an 8-over-par 224, edging out a pair of USF golfers, Katie Ruhe and Jill Crowe, who each fired a nine-over-par 225.
South Florida's 302 was the best team round of the tournament and lifted the host team to a narrow victory over TCU. East Carolina finished in third, Tulane in fourth and Louisville rounded out the top five.
Southern Miss put two players in the top 20, with Natasha Vincent finishing at 78-80-79--237 and Ofelia Lopez at 74-82-81--237. Jennifer Keefe finished in a tie for 29th at 84-78-82--244, Ashlea Deener in a tie for 34th at 85-85-79--249, and Brena Quaranto in 42nd place at 88-88-85--261.
