Lady Eagle Golfers Drop To 8th At C-USA Tournament
DADE CITY, Fla. -- Southern Miss dropped from seventh to eighth place after shooting a team total 325 in the second round of the Conference USA Women's Golf Tournament being played at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club here Tuesday.
Head Coach Julie Gallup's team posted a 321 team total in Monday's first round and was in seventh place after 18 holes. South Florida (307-303--610) made up three strokes during today's second round and moved into a tie for first place with first-round leader TCU (304-306--610). East Carolina matched its first round 308 and, at 616, goes into the final round six shots off the lead.
Tulane (311-310--621) is a shot further back and Louisville (317-313--630) rounds out the top five.
Brooke Tull of TCU, who shot a first round 72 and was alone in first place, shot an 8-over-par 80 today to drop into a tie for fifth place. Four players, from four different teams, now are tied for first place, after 36 holes. DRae Ward (75-75--150) of TCU, Marianne Ruud (76-74--150) of Memphis, Jill Crowe (78-72--150) of South Florida, an Margaret Mitchell (77-73--150) of East Carolina will go into the final round with a two-stroke lead over three other players, who all finished at 152.
Southern Miss' Ofelia Lopez, who was two shots out of the lead and in second place after Mondays first round 74, shot an 82 today, and dropped into sole possession of 16th place. Other Southern Miss players and their scores include Natasha Vincent tied for 19th (78-80--158), Jennifer Keefe tied for 29th (84-78--162), Ashlea Deener in 40th (85-85--170), and Brena Quaranto in 44th (88-88-176).
The third and final round of the tournament will be played Wednesday. For the first in C-USA history, both men's and women's tournaments are being played on the same days, at the same site.
