Lady Eagle Golfers Finish 9th In USF Invitational
BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Southern Miss Lady Eagle golf team shot rounds of 321 and 300 today in the Waterlefe/USF Invitational, and finished the 54-hole event in a ninth-place tie with Miami, at 939.
The Lady Eagles opened the event with a 318 round Monday, and after a planned second round was postponed by rain Monday, teams today finished that second round, along with the third and final round. Southern Miss shot its worst round of the tournament in today's first round (321), but then backed that with the team's best round, a solid 300, the fourth-best round of the day and fifth-best of the tournament.
In fifth place after Monday's opening round, TCU put rounds of 292 and 299 on the board to finish at 898 and comfortable in front of host and first round leader South Florida (302-311-294--907). Penn State (307-308-297--912), Louisville (303-311-304--918) and Ole Miss (309-306-307--922) and East Carolina (309-309-304--922) round out the top five teams.
TCU's DRae Ward played today's rounds at 3-under-par to finish at 76-70-71--217, and claim medalist honors. Miami's Tina Miller finished a stroke back at 74-72-72--218.
Ashlea Deener was Southern Miss' top player, finishing at 73-81-74--228, and in a tie for 16th place. Other Southern Miss players and their scores, include: Brena Quaranto (t29, 82-77-75--234), Jennifer Keefe (t43, 83-84-73--240), Natasha Vincent (t43, 83-79-78--240), and Ofelia Lopez (t51, 80-85-78--243).
