Baseball Hosts Temple For Two-Game Midweek Series
Hattiesburg, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball team will host Temple University in a two-game midweek series on Tues. and Wed., Mar. 11-12, at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. Both games will start at 6:30 p.m.
Both games will be broadcast on the radio with Lance Pittman handling the play-by-play duties. They will be broadcast on 107.1 FM, The Zoo and also on SouthernMiss.com.
The Golden Eagles (11-4) enter the midweek series after winning two-of-three in a weekend series against Southeast Missouri State. Southern Miss dropped Friday's game, 9-2, before winning Saturday's game, 7-5, and Sunday's game, 14-2.
Temple (0-6) comes into the series after dropping all three games at UNO over the weekend. The Owls opened the season at Troy State's Tournament, losing all three of their games. Temple lost to Kansas State, 10-6, in the first game, 3-0, to Northwestern, and 5-4 to host Troy State. Last weekend, the Owls dropped Friday's game to UNO, 4-3, Saturday's game, 4-1, and lost 8-4 on Sunday.
This will mark the first meeting between the two schools and the first time Southern Miss has faced a team which hails from the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Tuesday's game will match Southern Miss' Bob McCrory (Jr., RHP) against Temple's Bryan Stamm (So./LHP). McCrory received his second start at Louisiana-Monroe last Wednesday, picking up his second win of the season. He pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits, walking three and striking out six. For the season, he is 2-0 with a 14.14 ERA in seven innings pitched. He has given up 13 runs, 11 earned, on 16 hits, walked five and struck out eight. Stamm has pitched only 1.1 innings, giving up four runs on three hits, walking five and striking out three.
Wednesday's game will feature Southern Miss' Brent Leach (So., LHP) against Temple's Chris Hamilton (So., RHP) or Justin Mendek (So., LHP). Leach has made two appearances this season, posting an 0-0 record with a 13.50 ERA in 2.2 innings pitched. He has given up six runs, four earned, on seven hits, walked two and struck out five. Mendek is 0-0 with an 0.00 ERA in one inning pitched. He has struck out two and given up one hit. Hamilton hasn't pitched this season.
After the Temple series, the Golden Eagles will start Conference USA play, hosting Saint Louis University for a three-game weekend series. Friday's game will start at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday's game will start at 1 p.m.
