Eagle Golfers Win Beau Chene Classic
MANDEVILLE, La. -- The Southern Miss men's golf team made a late run, closing with an even-par round of 288 to claim the team title at the Beau Chene Collegiate Classic, at the Beau Chene Country Club. The Golden Eagles shot an 11-under for the tournament, with a three-round total of 280-285-288 -- 853.
Two Golden Eagles finished in the top five, as Shane Rushing shot 71-66-70 -- 207 and ranked fourth, and Justin Emil collected fifth place, shooting 68-70-70 -- 208. Justin Elliott scored 69-73-74 -- 216 and finished tied for 18th. Matt Wofford shot 72-78-74 and tied for 47th. Micheal Soroka shared 53rd after carding 75-76-74 -- 225.
Tulane's Chris Wheeler claimed medalist honors, posting three rounds under par for the tournament with 65-70-69 -- 204. Wheeler was at 12-under par while Colorado State's Nolan Martin and Jonathan Hill of East Carolina finished tied for second at 10-under par.
Campbell was runner-up at 10-under with 285-283-286 -- 854. Tourney host Southeastern Louisiana claimed third place with an eight-under, 286-277-293 -- 856.
