Women's Tennis Blanks MUW, 7-0
Hattiesburg, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches, today, for a 7-0 victory against Mississippi University for Women at Tatum Park Tennis Complex. With the win, the Lady Eagles improve their record to 1-2 on the season and MUW drops to 0-1.
The No. 1 Golden Eagle doubles team of Nikkila Narra and Emily Foster defeated MUW's Marisa Simmons and Courtenay Donnelly, in a hard-fought 8-6 victory. Kathi Sadofsky and Jennifer Sibille teamed at No. 2 doubles for Southern Miss and defeated MUW's Kara Rogers and Michelle Beukes, 8-4. The Lady Eagles swept the doubles competition with Amanda McClure and Courtney Ulrich defeating MUW's Jenny Rosen and Lesley Norwood at No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
Leading 1-0 after capturing the doubles point, The Golden Eagles continued to build on their lead. Narra defeated Simmons at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2, before Foster beat Connelly, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, giving USM the 3-0 lead. Southern Miss won at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-3, as Sadofsky defeated Beukes and took the 5-0 lead when completing the win at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1, by Berry over Rosen.
With the 5-0 lead, the Lady Eagles finished the sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles, as McClure downed Dina Malimon, and Ulrich blanked Rogers at No. 6 singles for the win.
Southern Miss travels to Northwestern (La.) State, on Saturday, Feb. 8, for a 10 a.m., match.
