Hall Golf Tourney Set For Hattiesburg CC
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Fifteen teams, including host Southern Miss, will play in the Sam Hall Intercollegiate that opens at 7:30 a.m., Monday morning at the Hattiesburg Country Club.
The par-72 course is the former longtime home of the PGA Magnolia Classic Tournament, and will play at par 72 and 6,904 yards.
Teams played Sunday practice rounds and attended a Sunday night team dinner honoring Sam Hall. The tournament is named for the longtime Southern Miss golf coach, who led the Southern Miss program through the 2000 season, and owns an almost-legendary reputation as one of the state's most successful amateur golfers.
Teams participating in the 54-hole event include Iowa State, Jacksonville, Louisiana-Monroe, McNeese State, Nebraska, Nicholls State, Sam Houston State, Samford, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas-Pan American, Troy State, Western Illinois, Wichita State, William Carey College and host Southern Miss.
Teams will start a busy day with a 7:30 a.m., shotgun start, and use continuous play for the full 36-holes scheduled for Monday. Tuesday's single, and final, round also will start at 7:30 with tee times off both No. 1 and No. 10 tees.
This event has been played for several years at various courses on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. In last year's event, at Windance Country Club in Gulfport, Southern Miss finished in first place with a 301-292-296--889 score. East Carolina's Jason Harris took medalist honors, at 70-72-72--214.
