Southern Miss Women Finish Second In Georgia State Tournament
STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- Southern Miss' women's golf team slipped to a 309 final-day team score today and into a second-place finish in Georgia State's John Kirk/Lady Panther Intercollegiate, played at the par 72, 5,842-yard Eagles Landing Country Club.
Third after Monday's opening round, Jacksonville State used a 303 score to take the tournament championship, with a 310-303--613 score. Southern Miss finished two shots back, at 306-309--615, while Middle Tennessee State (306-311--617), Campbell (322-308--630) and host Georgia State (321-312--633) round out the top five.
Campbell's Sofia Gorelik, who was tie for the individual lead after one round, used a 74 to earn medalist honors, at 72-74--146. Kristin Lynch of Middle Tennessee State, who also was tied for the lead after one round, slipped to a final round 79 and finished in a tie for fifth.
Southern Miss' Jennifer Keefe (75-77--152) and Mia Davidsson (74-78--152) finished in a group of four players tied for seventh.
Other Southern Miss players and their scores include Natasha Vincent (77-78--155)) tied for 12th, Ofelia Lopez (81-76--157) tied for 15th and Brena Quaranto (80-79--159) tied for 24th.
The tournament is the final fall event for Head Coach Julie Gallup and her Golden Eagles, who next will play in the Mar. 12-13, NIU Snowbird Classic in Tampa, Fla., when Southern Miss opens the spring season.
