Southern Miss struck first at 16:21 when Carly Barkley sailed a pass from Sarah Brennan past a diving Sarah Webster. Houston evened the score four minutes later at 20:51 when Hawkins fed junior Anne Gasser a pass, which she then sailed past a diving Snyder.
Less than a minute later, Southern Miss regained the lead when Brennan shot a pass from Kimberley Turner to Webster, who after getting her hands on the ball, knocked it into the net for the score. Barkley scored the Golden Eagles? third and final goal at 55:35 when she ran uncontested and beat Erin Ferguson, who replaced Webster in the first half, to the net.
The Houston offense continued to plug away and with just under 10 minutes left in the second period, pulled to within one goal when sophomore Meghan Moreo scored following passes from junior Anne Gasser and fellow sophomore Kelly Golden to make the score 3-2. Houston out-shot Southern Miss, 28-15, including 15-9 on-goal. Snyder recorded 12 saves for the Golden Eagles, while Webster and sophomore Erin Ferguson, who replaced Webster in the first half, combined for six saves.
Southern Miss concludes the regular season at home Oct. 31 and Nov. 2, against Tulane and Mississippi State respectively. Match times are 3 p.m. on Oct. 31 and 2 p.m. on Nov 2.
