Lady Eagle Tennis Players Advance to Semifinals
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. ? Southern Miss had two players advance to the semifinals at the Middle Tennessee Women?s Fall Invitational, Saturday, following wins in their respective flights at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
Freshman Nicola Slater (Ayers, Scotland) advanced to the semifinals, posting two wins Flight B singles. She defeated Catherine Allen of Chattanooga, 6-3, 6-4, and followed with a 7-5, 7-6 (6) victory over Andrea Feichtinger of Memphis. Slater plays Gayatri Ramesh of UT-Martin at 9 a.m., Sunday. In the same flight, Kati Sadofsky (Hobe Wand, Austria) lost to Saskia van Velze of Chattanooga, 6-1, 6-1.
In Flight C singles, Courtney Ulrich (Saucier, Miss.) defeated Mary Beth Muncher of Lipscomb, 6-1, 6-0 and Christina Wieser of Memphis, 6-1, 2-6, (10-8), advancing to the semifinals in a 9 a.m. match against Ana Bakran of UT-Martin. Olivia Berry (Gulfport, Miss.) defeated Lauren Snipes of Chattanooga, 6-1, 6-4, but lost to Suzanne Jones of Troy State, 6-2, 6-3.
Grace Kammerer (Cincinnati, Ohio) lost to Luisa Lopez of Troy State, 6-1, 6-0, in the Flight A singles. Jennifer Sibille (Lafayette, La.) lost to Jaclyn Wooten of Chattanooga, 3-6, 6-1 (10-3) in Flight D singles.
In Flight A doubles, Sadofsky and Kammerer lost to Jennifer Klaschka and Laura McNamara of Middle Tennessee, 8-1.
In Flight B doubles, Slater and Ulrich continued their winning ways, advancing to the finals with an 8-4 victory over Christina Wieser and Kristin Noble of Memphis. The duo will play Gayatri Remesh and Jeanne de Wet of UT-Martin in the finals.
The Lady Eagle players played well in the consolation draws with Kammerer defeating Gorman of Jacksonville State, 8-1, to advance to the semifinals. Nikhila Narra defeated Shearman of UT-Martin, 9-7, advancing to the other semifinal in Flight A consolation. Kammerer plays Laura DeHaan of Belmont and Narra plays Zeynep Gurkaynak of Jacksonville State at 9 a.m. Sunday. Sadofsky defeated Griffith of Belmont, 8-5, and plays Christina Dushner of Jacksonville State in the semifinals of Flight B consolation singles. Sibille defeated Flanagan of Chattanooga, 8-6, and plays Talia Stapleton of Belmont at 9 a.m. in the semis.
