Lady Eagle Soccer Opens Conference Play, Hosts Cincinnati and DePaul
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss soccer team opens Conference USA play with a pair of home matches this weekend at the USM Track and Soccer Complex.
The Lady Eagles play defending C-USA champion Cincinnati at 4 p.m., Friday, before facing the DePaul Blue Demons at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Southern Miss (4-2-0) is currently on a four-match winning streak, after defeating Gardner-Webb 3-0 last week.
Senior forward Katie Adams leads Southern Miss with 11 points on the season, including a team-high five goals. Sophomore midfielder Katie Randolph follows with seven points, after scoring two goals in the Lady Eagles? 3-0 win over the Bulldogs. Junior keeper Leslie Schoeplein has a team-high 17 saves and a goals-against-average of 1.21 this season.
Cincinnati (4-2-0) enters the match after suffering just its second loss of the season in a 1-0 defeat to Minnesota. The Bearcats, ranked No. 25 in the Soccer Times Top 25, won their fourth match just two days before, with a 2-1 win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Senior forward Amy Simonson leads Cincinnati with eight points on the year, all of them on goals. Junior midfielder Tasha Wagner follows with five points (one goal and three assists). Sophomore keeper Tracy Hale has 28 saves on the year and a 1.17 goals-against-average.
DePaul (4-1-0) enters the match on a streak of its own, after winning its fourth-straight contest with a 1-0 victory over Idaho on Sunday.
Freshman forward Julianna Stitch paces the Blue Demons with eight points on three goals and two assists. Senior forward Ogonnaya Dotson-Newman follows with six points on three goals. Junior Erica Keppel has allowed just one goal on 180:00 this season and has nine saves.
After the matches, the Lady Eagles take to the road with a weekend trip against Saint Louis and Marquette. Southern Miss and the Billikens meet at 7 p.m. on Friday.
