Southern Miss Soccer Falls in Overtime, 2-1
OXFORD, Miss. ? Marshall's Ellerie Karl netted a goal in the 102nd minute to lead the Thundering Herd to the 2-1 overtime win over Southern Miss, Sunday, in the Ole Miss Soccer Invitational.
The Lady Eagles (0-2) got on the board first as senior forward Katie Adams (Collierville, Tenn.) converted a pass from Emily Anne Chenoweth (So., D, Birmingham, Ala.) in the 16th minute of play.
Marshall (1-1) answered, though, tallying its first goal in the 18th minute as Ashley Schillig scored on an assist from Kelly Kennedy.
"We have to better in the goal," Southern Miss Head Coach Matt Clark said. "Our three forwards also have to do a better job of getting more shots on goal and having more scoring opportunities."
The game remained scoreless throughout the rest of the first half and the entire second half.
Junior goalkeeper Leslie Schoeplein (Marietta, Ga.) finished the game with one save. Southern Miss out-shot Marshall, 15-9.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Tuesday, as they travel to face Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss. The match is set for 7 p.m.
