Cook, Douglas Named ABCA All-South
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss outfielder Jeff Cook and pitcher Shea Douglas were both named to the 2002 American Baseball Coaches Association All-South Region Second Team as selected by the ABCA All-America Committee.
The two juniors were part of 26 players who were named to the All-South Region first and second teams.
Cook, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound junior from Hattiesburg, Miss., led Southern Miss in a number of batting categories, including runs (67), hits (82), home runs (16), total bases (143) and RBIs (63). He also was one of three Golden Eagles named to the All-Conference USA First Team.
Douglas, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound junior from Vicksburg, Miss., was the No. 1 starter for the Golden Eagles this season. He became the first Southern Miss pitcher to win 10 games in a season since 1991 and had season-highs in both wins (10) and strikeouts (108). Douglas finished with a 3.14 ERA, allowing 40 runs, 35 earned, on 91 hits in 100.1 innings. He also was a first team all-conference selection and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 32nd round of Major League Baseball's 2002 First-Year Player Draft.
