Southern Miss Inks Third Baseball Recruit In Spring Signing Period
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss Baseball Coach Corky Palmer has announced the signing of Bryan Bennett, a 6-3, 210-pound, first baseman, from Vidalia High School in Vidalia, La., to a letter of intent for the 2002-03 academic year. This marks the fifth signee of the year for the Golden Eagles.
"Bryan gives us a power hitter that we need to add to our lineup," Palmer said. "He is a very strong young man, who has a chance to come in and help us right away. We have been trying to address the issue of our lack of power, and he gives us help in that area."
Bennett, who plays for current Golden Eagle Jarrett Hoffpauir's father, Johnny, is a two-time all-state selection by the Louisiana High School Sportswriters and a three-time first-team all-district member. He was named to the All-Central Louisiana team as well as the All-Natchez metro team.
Bennett, a four-year letterwinner, is currently averaging .420 at the plate over his career and has hit 24 home runs, including 10 this year.
