Lady Eagles Lose in First Round of Conference Tournament
FORT WORTH, Texas--The No. 14 seed Southern Miss women?s tennis team lost to No. 3 seed Marquette, 4-0, today, at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, in Fort Worth, Texas
Marquette won the doubles point and the first three singles matches to claim its victory. Anna Pavlovic/Eva Trujillo (MU) def. Shawny Price/Jennifer Sibille (USM), 8-6, at the No. 1 doubles spot, while Vero Briseno/Belle Espinosa (MU) def. Olivia Berry/Sara Anne Harrison (USM), 8-0, at the No. 2 spot to take an early 1-0 lead.
In singles play, victories from the No. 1,3 and 4 spots clinched the win for Marquette. Espinosa (MU) def. Price (USM), 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 1 spot. Briseno (MU) def. Berry (USM), 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 2 spot, while Pavlovic (MU) def. Harrison (USM), at the No. 4 spot.
The Lady Eagles will now drop to the consolation bracket to face the loser of the first round match between No. 6 seed South Florida and No. 11 seed Saint Louis, tomorrow at 3 p.m.
