Pittman's Role Expands On Radio Network Broadcasts
Lance Pittman |
This move will allow Cox to devote more time to football and men's basketball, continue work on his two books on the history of Southern Miss football and basketball, various video projects for the department, as well as various public relation and community projects on behalf of the department, as well as his role as director of sports broadcasting at the University. He still will continue to stay involved with Southern Miss baseball, serving as play-by-play broadcaster on selected events as the University becomes more involved in producing televised events.
"Lance has done an excellent job with our network over the past 12 years and is a proven talent," Cox stated. "Fans who have followed Golden Eagle athletics over the years are familiar with Lance's skills and abilities as a broadcaster. He has a keen interest in and knowledge of baseball, and thus we felt that the time was right to expand his role. This also will free me to involve myself with programs that continue to demand additional time."
Pittman, who has a vast amount of experience with the network in the sports of football, basketball, baseball and softball, is in 12th season as part of the Golden Eagle baseball broadcast team, handling play-by-play and color duties. He also serves as the voice of the Lady Eagles basketball broadcasts, handling the play-by-play duties, the sideline and locker room reporter during football broadcasts and handling play-by-play for the nationally ranked women?s softball program for the past two years.
He currently works for WXHB-FM and WKNZ-FM radio, the flagship stations for baseball, softball and women?s basketball. Over the past several years, he has handled play-by-play duties for Dixie Youth and Dizzy Dean baseball, and many other sporting events in the area.
A native of Hattiesburg, Pittman graduated from Southern Miss in 1985 with a bachelor?s degree in radio, television and film, with a minor in public relations and history. He and his wife, Amy, reside in Hattiesburg.
