Lady Eagles Lose Two in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Southern Miss women?s tennis team lost to both Radford, 4-3 and Western Carolina, 6-1, yesterday, at Port Royal Racquet Club, in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Lady Eagles played well, but came up short against Radford. Shawny Price/Jennifer Sibille (USM) def. Blair Stover/Cindy Lindsay (RU), 8-2, at the No. 1 doubles spot. Radford won the doubles point after Jihane Najdi/Laura Dickinson (RU) def. Olivia Berry/Sara Anne Harrison (USM), 8-3, at the No. 2 spot. Radford won the No. 3 spot by default.
Price (USM) def. Najdi (RU), 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 1 singles spot, and Sibille (USM) def. Lindsay (RU), 6-3, 7-5, at the No. 2 spot, giving Southern Miss a 2-1 lead. Berry (USM) def. Stover (RU), 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot to improve the lead to 3-1. Radford tied the score when Dickinson (RU) def. Harrison (USM), 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-1, at the No. 4 spot and Barbara Wesson (RU) def. Jessica Olson (USM), 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 5 spot. Radford won the No. 6 spot by default giving it the win.
Western Carolina won No. 1-3 doubles spots to give them an early 1-0 lead. Price (USM) def. Kristen Munn (WCU), 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4, at the No. 1 singles spot to tie the score 1-1. Western Carolina won No. 2-6 singles to win the match 6-1.
The Lady Eagles? record now drops to 1-13 on the year. The team faces Bucknell University today, at 8 a.m. at Port Royal Racquet Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
