Lady Eagle Soccer Competes in Season Finale
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss soccer team will close the doors on another season as it travels to play UAB, Friday, in Birmingham, Ala.
The Lady Eagles (6-9-1, 2-6-1 in C-USA) are coming off their second-straight double-overtime match. The team fell to South Florida, 1-0, last Friday, ending all hopes of competing in the postseason Conference USA Tournament.
Senior forward Katie Adams and sophomore midfielder Katie Randolph continue to lead the Southern Miss offense. Adams has a team-high 16 points this season, including a team-high seven goals. Randolph follows with 11 overall points and is tied with freshman defender Micah Stephens with three assists.
Junior keeper Leslie Schoeplein is on pace to set the single-season record for most saves by a Southern Miss goalkeeper. Schoeplein has a career-high 78 saves this year and needs just six saves to surpass Hope Herron for the top spot in school history.
UAB (8-9-1, 4-5) is coming off a double-overtime loss to South Florida as well, as it fell to the Bulls, 2-1, on Sunday.
Jill Knottek and Tara Kidwell lead the team with 26 points each, while Knottek has a team-high 10 goals this season. Jenny Rynders follows the pair with 20 points. Lisa Nowoslawski leads the team with 86 saves this season and has a goals-against-average of 1.73.
Kickoff for the contest is set for 7 p.m.
