Lady Eagle Soccer Visits Louisiana-Lafayette, South Alabama
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? After playing two weekends of Conference USA games, the Southern Miss soccer team steps out of conference with two matches this weekend.
The Lady Eagles travel to face Louisiana-Lafayette for a 4 p.m. match on Friday, and then the team visits South Alabama for a Sunday contest set for 1 p.m.
Southern Miss (5-5, 1-3) is coming off a two-match road trip in which it lost to both Saint Louis and Marquette by 2-0 scores. In the Marquette match, junior keeper Leslie Schoeplein tied a career high with 11 saves. Schoeplein matched her previous total of 11 saves, set against DePaul.
Senior forward Katie Adams continues to lead the Southern Miss attack with 13 points on the season, including a team-high six goals. Sophomore midfielder Katie Randolph and senior forward Lindsay Canham follow with seven and six points, respectively. Schoeplein has 49 saves this season and a goals-against-average of 1.35.
The Ragin' Cajuns (3-4-3) are coming off a 1-0 win over Centenary College. Prior to that game, La.-Lafayette ended its match with South Alabama in a 0-0 draw. Stacy Smith leads the team with 13 points, including six goals. Tiffany Garber follows with seven points. Keeper Liza Preseault has 57 saves on the year, allowing 16 goals for a 1.52 goals-against-average.
The Jaguars enter the weekend with a 3-5-3 overall record and have tied in each of their last three matches against Austin Peay, La.-Lafayette and Rice. Julia Herman and Tanya Allegretti lead the team with 18 and 16 points, respectively. Herman has a team-high eight goals. Kyla Rogers and Amber Angermeier have split time at the keeper position. Angermeier has 43 saves on the season, while Rogers has 10 saves. The duo have combined for a 1.46 goals-against-average.
Following the two matches, Southern Miss resumes conference play with a match at TCU on Friday, and a home match against Houston on Sunday.
