Lady Eagle Golfers Fourth at Georgia State Tournament
The Southern Miss women's golf team, playing in its final tournament of the fall season, is a solid fourth after one round of Georgia State's 10th Annual John Kirk/Lady Panther Intercollegiate Tournament being played at the Eagles Landing Country Club Course here.
Western Carolina, at just four-over-par as a team, is five strokes ahead of the field after one round, but Southern Miss, with four players in the top 20, is just eight shots off the lead, heading into Tuesday's second round.
Jacksonville State is second at 297, Miami third at 299, and UCF, at 303, round out the top five. The Miami duo of Jazmin Cataldo and Camilla Hilland both carded three-under-par 69s in wet conditions today, and sit atop the first-round leaderboard.
Six other players bettered par during the round. Southern Miss' Brena Quaranto led the Lady Eagles in round one with a two-over-par 74, good for a tie for 11th, and teammates Jennifer Okeefe and Ofelia Lopez are tied in 14th place, at 75. Natasha Vincent is a stroke further back and tied for 19th. Ashlea Deener finished with an 81 today, good for a tie for 38th, to round out Golden Eagle scoring for Head Coach Julie Gallup's team.
