Lady Eagle Soccer Hosts Final Home Weekend
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss soccer team will host its final pair of matches this weekend, as it takes on Conference USA rivals Memphis and Tulane at the USM Track and Soccer Complex.
The Lady Eagles (6-7, 2-4 in C-USA) will face Memphis (5-7-1, 1-4) in a 4 p.m., match on Friday, and then the hosts will take on Tulane (5-8-1, 2-2-1) at 1 p.m., on Sunday.
Southern Miss comes off a 1-1 weekend in which it defeated TCU, 3-1, on Friday and lost to Houston, 3-2, in overtime on Sunday. Senior forward Katie Adams remains the team leader in points scored, as she has 16 points (seven goals and two assists) on the year. Sophomore midfielder Katie Randolph follows with 10 points (four goals and two assists). Junior keeper Leslie Schoeplein is tops on the team with 55 saves and 12 goals allowed, while sophomore keeper Anna Snyder follows with 16 saves and seven goals allowed.
The Lady Tigers are currently on a two-game skid after dropping a 3-0 decision to No. 24 Nebraska and a 2-0 match to South Florida. Alison Baker and Becca Amrozowicz lead the team with 12 points and 11 points, respectively. Katarina Wicksell has tended goal for the majority of the season and has 63 saves and 22 goals allowed.
The Green Wave won both of its matches last weekend, taking a 1-0 win over South Florida and a 4-0 victory over non-conference opponent Eckerd College. Lindsay Morris and Colleen Lake both lead the team with 10 points, while Morris has a team-high five goals. Kristin Weegar has 58 saves and 22 goals allowed this season.
The Sunday match also will be the last time six Southern Miss seniors take the field. The team's seniors include Adams, forward Lindsay Canham, defender Pauline Hazan, midfielder Leila McReynolds, midfielder Jennifer Nichols and forward Tricia Wiles.
Following the two matches, the Lady Eagles enter the final two contests of the regular season against South Florida on Oct. 25 and against UAB on Nov. 1.
