Southern Miss Soccer Travels to TCU, Hosts Houston
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss soccer team resumes Conference USA play with a pair of matches this weekend against TCU and Houston.
The Lady Eagles (5-6, 1-3 in C-USA) travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to face TCU (2-7-4, 1-2-1) in a 3 p.m., match on Friday. Southern Miss then returns to Hattiesburg to host Houston (5-5-2, 1-1-2) in a match scheduled for 1 p.m., on Sunday.
After losing their last three matches by a combined score of 5-0, including a 1-0 loss to South Alabama on Sunday, the Lady Eagles will be in search of their second win in conference play. Senior forward Katie Adams remains the Southern Miss points leader with 13 points on the season. Adams also leads the team with 34 shots. Junior keeper Leslie Schoeplein has 49 saves on the season, and she needs just 12 saves to surpass her 2001 mark of 60 saves.
The Horned Frogs are also winless in their last two matches, finishing with a 1-1 draw against Southern Methodist and losing to Oklahoma 2-0. Nicole Carman paces the team with 13 points, leading in both goals (5) and assists (3). In goal, Ruth DeJong leads TCU with 76 saves this season, allowing 22 goals in the process.
The Cougars fell in their last two outings, including a 2-0 loss to UNLV and a 2-1 overtime defeat to Southern Utah. Nikki Hankins leads the team with nine points on the year, including a team-high four goals. Keeper Erin Ferguson has 58 saves this season and has allowed 16 goals.
Following the two matches, Southern Miss remains at home for its final two home matches, as it hosts Memphis on Oct. 18 and Tulane on Oct. 20. Kickoff for the matches are at 4 p.m., and 1 p.m., respectively.
