Golden Eagle Soccer Classic Kicks Off Regular Season
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss women's soccer team opens regular-season play in the inaugural Golden Eagle Soccer Classic this weekend at the Marshall Bell Track and Soccer Complex.
Along with the Lady Eagles, three other teams are taking part in the event, including Alabama A&M, Middle Tennessee State and Nicholls State. Alabama A&M faces Nicholls State in the tournament opener, Friday, at 2:30 p.m., while Southern Miss meets MTSU at 5 p.m. On Sunday, Nicholls State and MTSU compete at 1 p.m., and the Lady Eagles host Alabama A&M at 3 p.m.
Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny L. DuPree will begin the tournament with the opening kick.
The Lady Eagles are led by junior forward Tricia Wiles, a preseason All-Conference USA selection, and junior forward Lindsay Canham, the team's returning high scorer. Southern Miss won its first two exhibition games last week, including a 3-0 win over the Alabama Attack and a 4-0 win over the Huntsville Kicks.
