Lady Eagles Defeat Alabama Attack in Exhibition Opener
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Tricia Wiles scored two goals and Avery Berrey added another as the Southern Miss women's soccer team defeated the Alabama Attack club team, 3-0, in an exhibition game Saturday at the Marshall Bell Track and Soccer Complex.
Both team were scoreless in the first half, but the Lady Eagles did manage to fire 12 shots in the first half.
In the second half, Southern Miss changed their attack, resulting in the three scores.
"This was just an opportunity for us to get the kinks of our system," Southern Miss Head Coach Matt Clark said. "We had better control in the second half, and we kept the ball on the ground."
Wiles, a preseason All-Conference USA selection, netted her first goal in the 60th minute of the match, and added her second score in the 71st minute. Berrey, a freshman forward, tallied her score in the 74th minute.
The Lady Eagles play in their second exhibition match against the Huntsville Attack, Sunday, at noon. Southern Miss opens regular-season play August 31 against Middle Tennessee State in the inaugural Golden Eagle Soccer Classic.
