Anthony Rawson Signs With Cardinals
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss pitcher Anthony Rawson, drafted in the 42nd round by the St. Louis Cardinals, has signed and reported to rookie camp. He begins his professional career in the rookie league as a member of the Johnson City Cardinals in Johnson City, Tenn.
He made his pitching debut on Tuesday night, June 19, and collected his first save. He pitched one inning, giving up one hit, walking one and striking out three in saving a 3-1 victory against the Elizabethton Twins.
Rawson transferred to Southern Miss after spending two seasons at Meridian Community College. This past season at USM, he made 29 appearances, pitching in 38.1 innings and finishing with a 2-0 record, earning six saves and having a 3.52 earned run average. He struck out 47 batters and walked 24. Opposing batters hit .201 against him last season.
