Stoy Named to 2001 FedEx Conference USA All-Tournament Team
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss outfielder Clint Stoy was named to the 2001 FedEx Conference USA 11-man all-tournament team, voted on by the league's media and sports information directors, who covered the tournament May 16-20 at Zephyr Field in New Orleans, La.
Stoy finished the tournament with a .357 batting average (5/14) in three games played. He had two doubles and five runs batted in for the Golden Eagles, who finished 2-2 during the five-day event. Stoy also had a .500 slugging percentage and .357 on-base percentage.
USM defeated No. 2 Houston, 6-2, on day one, No. 3 South Florida, 18-5 on day two and advanced to the semifinal round on Saturday. South Florida defeated the Golden Eagles twice on Saturday, 6-4 and 7-4, advancing to the championship game against the eventual tournament champion, Tulane.
Southern Miss batted .320 overall as a team for the tournament with nine doubles, three triples, a home run, two stolen bases and 25 runs batted in. Its slugging percentage was .442 and its on-base percentage was .392.
The Golden Eagles finished the season with a 27-32 record and 11-16 in Conference USA. They entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed and advanced to the tournament's final four teams. USM loses four starters and five letterwinners from the 2001 squad.
