Cook Named to the Verizon Academic All-District IV Team
Hattiesburg, Miss. -- Southern Miss baseball player Jeff Cook was named as a member of the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District VI Baseball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The sophomore was named as a designated hitter on the 11-man roster. All first-team members, hailing from 10 regional universities, will advance on to the national ballot to be voted by CoSIDA. The Verizon Academic All-America team will be named on June 5.
Cook, who has split time as a designated hitter and outfielder this season, leads Southern Miss in virtually every offensive category. He is leads the team in batting average (.347), at-bats (216), hits (75), doubles (18), RBIs (36), and total bases (113). Cook is also tied for second on the team in home runs with six.
In Conference USA statistics, he is fifth in doubles, sixth in hits, ninth in total bases and 10th in batting average.
