Lady Eagles Hold On To Defeat Louisville, 4-2
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship continues to
follow its script, as the top seeds advanced to the semifinals of the winners bracket Friday, in
Hattiesburg.
In the morning matches, UAB cruised to a 4-0 victory against Memphis. UAB won the doubles'
point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles teams. UAB dominated the singles play, winning at No.
1, No. 4, and No. 6 singles to win the match.
Marquette held off a stubborn Houston team, 4-2, to advance to the semifinals. Marquette
took the doubles' point, winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles' teams. Marquette battled back from a
2-2 tie, with wins at the No. 3 and No. 1 singles to clinched the match against Houston.
In one noon match, Tulane blanked DePaul, 4-0, to advance to the semifinals. The Green
Wave took an early 1-0 lead, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles' to earn the doubles' point. Tulane
then received wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 singles' to win the match.
South Florida held off Cincinnati, 4-1, advancing to the semifinals. The Bulls started the
match, winning the doubles' point, with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Cincinnati scored its only point of
the match, winning at No. 2 singles. South Florida took wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
In the afternoon matches, Southern Miss held on to defeat Louisville, 4-2. The Lady Eagles
took a 1-0 lead, winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles' matches for the point. Southern Miss jumped
out to a 3-0 lead, taking wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, before Louisville bounced back to take wins
at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, and trailed only 3-2. Southern Miss clinched the match with a three-set
win at No. 5 singles.
Saint Louis zipped past Charlotte with a 4-0 victory. The Billikens sweep the doubles for the
doubles' point. Saint Louis then took wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles to seal the match.
C-USA Women's Tennis action continues when Tulane faces South Florida at 9 a.m., at the
Racquet Club, in one semifinal match, followed by UAB and Marquette, in the other semifinal match,
at noon, at the Racquet Club.
Louisville and Charlotte will battle for the 11th place spot, at 9 a.m., at Tatum Park. Southern
Miss and Saint will face off to determine the ninth place spot, at 3 p.m., at the Racquet Club.
Marquette plays Memphis at noon, at Tatum Park, and Cincinnati takes on DePaul at 3 p.m., at
Tatum Park. The winners will meet in a noon match, Sunday, to determine the fifth and sixth places
in the tournament, while the losers meet in a 9 a.m. match, Sunday, to determine the seventh and
eighth places.
