Arkansas-Little Rock Takes Lady Eagle Invitational
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Arkansas-Little Rock shot a tournament-best 306 in the final round of the Lady Eagle Invitational and surpassed
early-leader Florida International to finish in first place. FIU?s Michelle Simpson (69-80-76 ? 225) held on to her lead to beat Randi Gauthier
(77-74-75 - 226) of North Texas by a stroke and claimed medalist honors.
Arkansas-Little Rock started this morning 10-strokes behind Florida International, but the Lady Trojans overtook the Lady Panthers by 12
strokes (306 to 318) in the last round of the tournament, held at Timberton Golf Course. UALR?s Sofia Josefsson (78-78-74 - 230) helped
her team?s efforts by finishing fourth in individual standings, behind Wendy Gray (79-74-74 - 227) of Sam Houston State.
Simpson started the tournament with a course record of 69. She turned in an 80 yesterday but made gradual improvement with a final
round score of 76 to maintain her leader status.
Southern Miss improved its scoring with a 316 and finished in sixth place. Ofelia Lopez (82-78-78) led the Lady Eagles and ranked 15th in
the event standings.
Other Southern Miss rankings include Marella Canepa (82-83-79 - 244) tying for 25th. Jamie Sims (81-80-84 - 245) tied for 29th, and
Michelle Zorn (82-86-81 - 249) claimed a share of 38th. Emily Black (85-89-78 - 252) closed out team scoring for the Lady Eagles, tying
for 45th, and Brena Quaranto (83-80-86 - 249) tied for 38th, while competing as an individual.
