Florida International Leads Lady Eagle Invitational
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Florida Internationals Michelle Simpson scored a Timberton Golf Course of 69 (-3) to lead all golfers in the first
round of the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational. FIU also holds an eight-stroke lead (309) over second-place North Texas (371).
The tournament started off with a 38-minute delay due to frost on the course. The late start did not hinder Simpsons performance or her
teammate Ellen Dunne, who shares second place with New Orleans Crystal Elliers in the individual standings with a 75.
Southern Miss currently stands in seventh place with a 327 score. Jamie Sims currently leads all Lady Eagles with an 81 and is tied for
17th in the player rankings. Marella Canepa, Ofelia Lopez and Michelle Zorn share 27th, as all three scored 82 on the opening day. Emily
Black finished with an 85, and competing as an individual is Brena Quaranto, who scored 83.
The tournament continues on Monday and Tuesday, with tee times set for 8 a.m. both days.
