Lady Eagle Soccer Blanks TCU in Home Finale
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? It was the final home match for the Southern Miss soccer team, and the Lady Eagles saved the best for last in a 3-0 win over Conference USA foe TCU, Sunday, at the USM Track and Soccer Complex.
Senior midfielder Claire Rea had an assist and a goal to lead Southern Miss to its biggest conference win of the season.
The Lady Eagles came out the gates gunning, as Rea fired a shot which ricocheted off TCU keeper Adrianne Labovitz, and junior forward Lindsay Canham took the ball and put it in the back of the net for the opening score, 44 seconds into the match.
The score would remain through the first half, as the Lady Eagle defense limited the Horned Frogs to just three shots.
Southern Miss scored quickly in the second half, as junior forward Katie Adams found junior forward Tricia Wiles for a score in the 48th minute.
TCU turned up the pressure in the second half, though, firing 13 shots in the frame. However, the Horned Frogs could not convert on any of those opportunities as Southern Miss keeper Leslie Schoeplein picked up four saves in the half.
The Lady Eagles sealed the win with a goal in 87th minute as Rea converted on Adams' second assist of the day.
Schoeplein finished with five saves on the day, while Labovitz also had five saves.
Southern Miss returns to action, Saturday, when they travel to face Tulane in New Orleans.
