UAB Hands Lady Eagles Fifth Conference Loss
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? After posting its first Conference USA win last week over Memphis, the Southern Miss Lady Eagles could not continue the streak, falling 3-1 to UAB, Friday, at the USM Track and Soccer Complex.
The Lady Blazers (7-6, 5-2 in C-USA) scored twice in the first half and benefitted from a Southern Miss own-goal in the second to take the win.
Southern Miss and UAB matched shots in the game with 11 apiece.
While the Lady Eagles (7-5, 1-5) attacked early, it was the Lady Blazers who were fortunate, scoring two first half goals.
UAB got on the board in the 27th minute as Denise Peters took an assist from Stephanie Davis and fired it past Southern Miss keeper, Leslie Schoeplein.
The Lady Blazers added their second score in the 38th minute after Bridget McCarty served the ball to Jenny Rynder for a goal.
In the second frame, UAB tallied another goal as the ball ricocheted off a Southern Miss player for an own-goal in the 77th minute of play.
The Lady Eagles' lone goal of the match came when Katie Adams converted on an assist by Laurie Beaury in the 80th minute. Claire Rea also had an assist on the score.
Southern Miss returns to action as it hosts South Florida, Sunday, at the USM Track and Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
