Lady Eagle Golfers Ninth at USF Tournament
BAYONET POINT, Fla. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team recorded a 313 team total in the first round of the Beacon Woods Invitational here, Friday, and is tied with Mississippi State in ninth place in the 12-team field.
The 54-hole event continues tomorrow and ends Sunday.
Host South Florida used Jameica Duncombe's 37-36--73, three 74s and a 78 to finish in first place after the first round with a 295 team total and a two-shot lead over Ole Miss and Louisville. Central Florida (302), and Tulane (304) round out the top five.
Ole Miss' Elizabeth Hoffman's shot the best round of the day at one-under-par 71, and Southern Miss' Brena Quaranto is only two shots back after a one-over-par 36-37--73 today. Teammate Ashlea Deener (40-38--78) is tied for 32nd, while Natasha Vincent (39-42), Ofelia Lopez (38-43) and Jennifer Keefe (42-39) all are tied for 50th with 81s.
In addition to Quaranto, four other players are tied at 73 and another 10 are a stroke back at 74.
