Cawthon became an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Southern Miss in August of 2019.
His responsibilities as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach are to design, implement, and facilitate strength and conditioning protocols for his programs at Southern Miss. He assists the Sports Medicine staff with rehabilitation of student athletes, and supervises, mentors and teaches Strength and Conditioning staff.
Prior to Southern Miss, he served as Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning at Lenoir-Rhyne University, overseeing the designing and equipping of the Neill McGeachy Sports Performance Center. Previously, he worked at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte from May to December of 2018 as a Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. From 2016 to 2018, he was at his alma mater, Bridgewater College, as Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning, where his sports produced Conference Champions as well as National Champions.
The Williamsburg, Va. native graduated in 2016 from Bridgewater College with his Bachelor's in Health and Exercise Science with a minor in Nutrition and Wellness. He played football while at Bridgewater from 2012-15 as a defensive tackle, where he was Team Captain in 2015, was named All-ODAC in 2013, 2014, and 2015. In 2015 he was also named All-State by VaSID.
