In 2023, his kick and punt return units were ranked in the top 35 nationally. Antavious Willis’ 22.2 kickoff return average ranked No. 32 and Jakarius Caston ranked No. 6 in kickoff returns for touchdowns with one as that unit ended No. 24 at 22.54 yards per return.
Ti Mims ranked No. 2 punt return touchdowns with one and his 11.1 yard punt return average finished No. 13 in the country. Andrew Stein’s 1.42 field goals per game held a No. 29 national ranking.
Meyer’s 2022 group enjoyed a record year. Briggs Bourgeois connected on 18-of-19 field goal attempts, a 94.7 percent clip, and ended the season with 17-consecutive makes, earning him All-Sun Belt honors. Bourgeois also led the team in points scored with 90 total points on 18 field goals and 26 PATs. His field goal percentage ranked fourth in the country and first in the Sun Belt. Mason Hunt booted 70 punts for a total of 2,973 yards with 27 tries pinning the opponent within the 20-yard line. Hunt finished at No. 42 in average yards per punt.
In his first year overseeing the special teams, Meyer coached Conference USA first-team kick returner Camron Harrell, who ranked tied nationally for No. 13 in kickoff returns for touchdowns with one against Rice and No. 24 in return yardage (25.5). The team also finished in the Top 35 nationally in both kick return yards (No. 34/23.29 ypr) and punt return yards (No. 27/10.71).
Meyer joined the staff in Hattiesburg after spending the previous three seasons as special teams analyst at Georgia. During that time, Georgia posted a 30-7 record and went to the Sugar Bowl twice during his time there.
In 2020, the Bulldogs rank in the Top 10 nationally in kickoff returns (No. 5/29.70 per return) and kickoff return defense (No. 8/16.80).
Prior to his stint at Georgia, Meyer worked at Eastern Kentucky as special teams coordinator and running backs coach, where he spent two seasons.
In his first season as special teams coordinator, Meyer tutored the top rated punting unit in the conference and one of the best in the nation. Eastern led the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) in net punting (41.19 ypp) and punt return defense (2.5 ypp). The Colonels ranked third and fourth in the nation in those categories as well.
Meyer served as the special teams quality control coach at Tennessee for three seasons (2013-15). Before that he served in the same role during the 2012 season at Cincinnati. Meyer got his collegiate coaching start as a staff intern at Mississippi State in 2009. He then served as a special teams graduate assistant for the Bulldogs during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
He earned a bachelor’s in business management and English from Case Western Reserve University in 2010. Meyer completed a master’s degree in kinesiology at Mississippi State in 2012.
Meyer, and his wife, Rylee, have one daughter.
