His first season on staff in 2017 saw the Golden Eagles boast the nation’s No. 20 defense (331.9 ypg) before improving even further to No. 3 the next year (274.8) as his involvement continued to increase.
During his time with the Golden Eagles, Davis has mold three former Golden Eagles to the next level, as Picasoo Nelson (UDFA), Tarvarius Moore (3rd round, San Francisco 49ers) and Cornell Armstrong (6th round, Miami Dolphins).
Davis was able to show his players what is was like to play in the National Football League, teaching them from his experiences on the at level.
He spent time as a player with seven NFL franchises from 2014-16, playing 21 games overall. He made 13 appearances for the Washington Redskins his rookie season, making 11 tackles, before spending 2015 with the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks, forcing a fumble. He played two games in 2016 for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
His professional journey as a player was document by the NFL Network’s show Undrafted.
Davis graduated from Laurel High School in 2008 before continuing his education and playing career at Jones County Junior College and Memphis. He played three years for the Tigers (2010-12), graduating in 2011 with a B.B.A. in Finance.
The two-time team captain appeared in 34 games while at Memphis, starting 27 of them, and recording 162 tackles, three interceptions, nine pass breakups, five forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and 2.5 sacks.
Davis has remained true to his South Mississippi roots, no matter where he has been. Each year he hosts the AD47 Football Leadership Academy, a free, one-day, football skills camp dedicated to implementing the “Five Pillars” core curriculum of Character, Leadership, Discipline, Follow-through and Grit.
AD47 is sanctioned and insured by the NFL Foundation and run in partnership with USA Football through the FUNdamentals program. The Inaugural AD47 was held in Laurel, MS in June 2015, and featured 53 school children, ages 8-12 from across the greater Laurel region. In 2016, it expanded to 100 children and has been at full capacity each summer.
During his graduate assistant days for the Golden Eagles, he also enjoyed an Internship with the Washington Football Team as he assisted with day-to-day practice plans and evaluation.
Davis is married to the former Sierra Byrd and the couple have a daughter, Carsyn, and son, CJ.
