Golden Eagles Cruise to First Win of the Blake Anderson Era

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Steven Robinson rushed for three touchdowns and Kobi Albert intercepted three passes as Southern Miss (1-0) rolled past Alcorn State 49-3 on Saturday at Renasant Stadium. The win gave Blake Anderson his first win as the Golden Eagles' head coach.

Robinson turned in three short scoring runs on his way to 123 rushing yards on 23 carries. Albert's three interceptions were one short of the school record set by Larry Ussery against Louisiana Tech in 1967. It was the most since Josh Moten grabbed three interceptions at Arkansas State last season.
The Braves (1-1) scored the game's first and their only points on Kenyon Bowyer's field goal before the Eagles took the lead for good on Robinson's 2-yard rush. Ethan Hampton's 38-yard TD toss to Mario Sanders and Jamarice Wilder's 2-yard score made it 21-3 by halftime.
Hampton threw for 180 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Wilder added 90 yards rushing and two scores and Sanders had 94 yards receiving. The Eagles had 543 yards total offense and five takeaways on defense.
Southern Miss will travel to Auburn on Saturday, Sept. 12. The Golden Eagles an Tigers will kick-off at 6:45 p.m. on SEC Network.
